MMP-9, also known as Matrix Metalloproteinase-9, is an enzyme that belongs to the matrix metalloproteinase family. It plays a crucial role in tissue remodeling and degradation of extracellular matrix components. MMP-9 is primarily produced by neutrophils, macrophages, and fibroblasts, and is involved in various physiological and pathological processes, such as wound healing, tissue repair, and inflammation. Its dysregulation has been linked to several diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disorders, and neurological conditions.
